Sport is important, especially for people with Parkinson's, as it can slow the progression of the disease. It is important that everyone has equal access to sport. The Netherlands has therefore signed the UN Convention on Human Rights with Disabilities and established the 'Sport unites the Netherlands'.
The Parkinson Games will take place in Eindhoven from 04 t.m. 06 August 2022 Approximately 750 participants and approximately 200 supervisors are expected. The event starts with a symposium called “Parkinson and lifestyle” with the help of. Prof Bas Bloem and Machteld Huber.
The second day starts with the well-known Olympic opening ceremony in which the participants walk into the stadium, the torch is carried in, the oath is taken and the fire is lit, after which they start with approximately 20 sports suitable for Parkinson's patients such as: badminton, basketball, boxing , curling, darts, golf, running, jeu des boules, powerlifting, spinning, squash, table tennis, tennis, football and swimming, but also a real duathlon.
Also on the second day (05Aug22) there is a cultural Gala evening in the Eindhoven ParkTheater. It concerns the National Ballet and members of the New York Metropolitan, Kamarata South (a large orchestra), a performance by Andrew Greenwood and Prof. Erik Scherder and a beautiful interaction with many young technical students worldwide. On the third day, the remaining sports activities and the Olympic closing ceremony will take place.
